I've decided on having a sweet table at our wedding and wanted also to dot some signs and chalk boards around just for those special little touches. I've been really inspired by ideas like these

So I decided I'd make my own as buying in something new isn't an option. So I did what I di best and headed down to make regular car boot sale one wet and windy Sunday morning at ridiculous o'clock. I'm never quite sure what I'm looking for but I ALWAYS seem to come back with something fabulous, curious and wonderful. So it was that I found this fabulous art deco style mirror on a stand and after some furious haggling got it for a massive £2!
Admittedly I had zero connection with the not so pretty painting behind the glass and so wasn't overly concerned about undoing the back and removing it. Plus it was just too much hassle. So, I hot footed it down to B&Q to get my essentials
1. Paint brush
2. Chalk Board Paint
3. Piece of 3mm MDF
4. Super Bond Glue - the stuff that would stick your body up to the ceiling if you needed it to!
I gave the wood a little polish with the help of my old friend Mr Pledge. I didn't sand it down as I wanted it to keep its imperfect rustic feel. I gave the mdf a couple of coats of the black board paint - its really important that you have a good brush and that you leave the first coat to dry properly before you apply the second coat. Once it was dry I simply covered the back with plenty of the rocket fuel glue to make sure it staid in place and hey presto....
Beeeaaaaautiful and made even more special in that the whole project cost me no more than £5!!!
As I've got the paint, the brushes and the bug now :) I've decided to try the same technique out on plates, trays, chairs and well....who knows. Watch out for my next updates!
